The IPod Evolution

IPod models according to sequential order :
First Generation iPods : the 1st models to come out came with 5GB hard drives, Apple later increased the capacity to 10GB. These iPods sported the now familiar scroll wheel with a center select button. The device became a large hit in the market but are now quite rare thanks to the emergence of newer models.
2nd Generation iPods : Apple heeded the call for Windows compatible iPods and invented these models which came with 20GB hard drives. The devices had thicker bodies and also came with cases and wired remotes.
Third Generation iPods : These iPods became thinner and the scroll wheel was replaced with the touch delicate wheel. We also saw the arrival of the 30 pin dock connector with this series. The buttons surrounding the wheels and hanging parts were also eliminated.
Fourth Generation iPods : The arrival of the click wheel is perhaps the single difference with the 4th generation iPods over the other models. They also had the same monochrome screen. The devices allowed the battery to be charged thru the USB connection.
Colour iPods : The devices now came with colour displays enabling diverse image files to be viewed on the screen. They came with the standard 65K colour display. Photo library can now be stored on the device and peripheral devices like cameras were also available .
5th Generation iPods : These devices were created to further tweak the device’s minor flaws like audible hard drive noise. They came in various sizes, colours, and storage capacities to fit the customers. They also came with additional software features like the World Clock, memorandum, Calendar, Stopwatch, and Screen Lock applications.
IPod mini : The mini’s features resembled the previous versions and sported a smaller structure. The micro-drive was introduced as the storage medium for these devices. They appealed to a younger market with bright and colourful colours. They were further developed as first and 2nd generation devices.
IPod shuffle : These are the models that first utilised flash memory. These devices did not have a screen which made music files navigation a little difficult. But audio quality was glorious and the devices became popular especially for people with active lifestyle .
IPod nano : These devices also use flash memory but it sported colour displays. It also came with additional features like World Clock, memorandum, Calendar, Stopwatch, and Screen Lock.
