Buying An Plasma TV
When black and white television was introduced to the public, people marveled at the new technology. These old sets had small screens located within a large cabinet. When colour television arrived on the market, they were a tremendous improvement, although the sets were still bulky and took up a great deal of space. If the pictures on these sets were sometimes fuzzy, consumers didn’t mind. It was they knew. Then plasma television arrived on the scene and made everything else obsolete.
In 1996, the US government mandated that TV stations begin to broadcast in digital format. This made possible the introduction of plasma television sets. Digital television (DTV) has vastly improved picture quality and has made it possible for more channels to be broadcast using the same amount of space. Mass production of plasma monitors has made them affordable to the vast majority of consumers.
Plasma monitors are far more convenient than the old television sets. The monitors are usually only 6 inches thick and have a wider screen than ever. The size of plasma monitor is continuously growing, the largest one being 15 feet tall and 11 feet wide.
The old television sets were sensitive to light and glare and showed the best pictures in a darkened room. The pictures shown on the new plasma sets do not become washed out nor do they suffer from annoying glare. Instead, their coulor range and clarity is far superior to anything offered in the past.
Plasma TV uses an entire new technology. In the interior of the monitor, there are thousands of lighted cells known as pixels. These pixels are filled with xenon, neon and helium gasses and coated in phosphor atoms. The red, blue and green colors of these pixels merge to produce all the newly available colors with the plasma television sets.
The color pixels are located between two sheets of glass. When the television is turned on, free radicals are discharged into the cells and turn into ions. When these ions bind together, plasma is formed. The gasses within the pixels send out ultraviolet light which illuminates each pixel. This process brings the plasma image to the screen.
Besides their improved picture quality, the advantage of plasma television sets is that the thin monitors can fit nicely on a table, counter or be mounted on a wall. The plasma sets produce high quality colors and allow for better contrast ratio between dark and light colors, thereby giving off clearer and more powerful pictures.
Despite the enthusiastic reception of plasma television, a lingering concern has remained over the high consumption of energy required by this new technology. The new plasma televisions are quite costly to run. Consumers are demanding more efficient use of energy, not less. These drawbacks may be in the process of being solved with the introduction of a new generation of plasma television sets.
The 2008 Consumer Electronics Show launched a new plasma display capable of greater energy efficiency. Through improved design, these new sets use only half as much energy as the current sets. This will amount to considerable energy savings. The new generation of plasma television sets is thinner, provides even better quality viewing and will be offered in a wireless version for easy installation.
The new plasma televisions have met with tremendous consumer approval. Increased picture quality has increase viewer enjoyment and the thin monitors have made them easier to situate in a room. As prices fall, more and more consumers will take advantage of what the new plasma television sets have to offer.
